First Aid, CPR and AED Courses

American Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED programs are designed to help you learn— and remember— valuable lifesaving skills and knowledge. We translate the consensus of medical science into practical, easy-to-understand information for the American public.

Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED programs are available for any age group and can be tailored to the needs of specific groups and individuals. Whether you work with children, want training for employees, are a professional rescuer, or simply want to know how to help in an emergency, the American Red Cross has a program for you.

Workplace Training: Standard First Aid with Adult CPR/AED  (6 1/2 hours)
The most comprehensive hands-on training course.  Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.


Adult CPR/AED (4 1/2 hours)
Hands on skills-training for adult CPR and AED prepares participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies.

Adult CPR (3 3/4 hours)
Learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults.

Infant and Child CPR (5 1/2 hours)
Designed for childcare providers, teachers, parents and others who care for children, this course teaches how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies and how to use the EMS system effectively. Participants take home a refresher skills card as well as information about preventing injuries. This course applies to infants and children up to 8 years. Infant CPR is also available separately as a 3 1/2 hour course that applies to infants up to 12 months; Child CPR (4 hours) is available separately and applies to children age 1 to 8 years.

AED Essentials (2 hours)
Individuals currently certified in Adult CPR learn how to safely use an AED to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest.


Injury Control Modules (1 hour each)
Focusing on common causes of worksite injuries and key health risks, these one-hour awareness-level modules highlight risks and promote prevention. Self-assessments help employees recognize risky habits. Demonstrations and lively discussions reinforce practical prevention tips. Modules include: Ergonomics; Slips, Trips and Falls; Back Injury Prevention; Workplace Violence Awareness; Managing Stress; and Your Heart Matters.

Preventing Disease Transmission. (2 hours)
A training module for employers and employees who, while on the job, may be exposed to blood or other body fluids that could cause infection. Employers can offer this program as part of their compliance with OSHA regulations. Available in English and Spanish.

Oxygen Administration (2 hours)
Laypersons can learn when and how to use supplemental oxygen and breathing devices. Professional rescuers also learn advanced skills in airway management.

First Aid--When Help Is Delayed (2 hours)
This first aid course helps people prepare for and respond to an emergency where an EMS response could take 30 minutes or more

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (8 hours)

This course is intended for individuals who are expected to respond to emergencies as part of there job-related duties.  Includes specialized skills and techniques for two-rescuer CPR/caring for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants, and use of resuscitation mask and bag-valve mask.

 

Pet First Aid (4 hours)

Your pet is counting on you.  Pet First Aid presents symptoms and care for ailments and emergencies, instructions for creating a pet first aid kit and tips on maintaining your pet’s health and well being.

Before You Start

Instructor Credentials
Red Cross instructors are experienced educators who continually update and perfect their skills through continuing education. New instructors work under a veteran instructor until they are ready to teach their own class. Our class size is limited to give you the opportunity for individual attention.

Cancellations
Please call the Red Cross at least 48 hours before the first day of class to arrange for a transfer or a refund if you must cancel. Fees are non-refundable if you do not notify the Red Cross or attend the class.

The Red Cross may cancel a class if less than three people are enrolled. If your class is cancelled and you are unable to transfer to another class session, the class fee will be returned to you in full.

What To Wear
Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for practice sessions, many of which are on the floor. Water Safety students need to bring a swimsuit and towel.

Books And Supplies
All books and materials you will need are furnished and are included in the class fee. The books are yours to keep and serve as helpful reference guides. You may want to bring paper and a pencil or pen to take notes.
